Do you feel like you are always on the go? Do you have no social life? Are you struggling to find time for things that matter? If you answered yes to any of these questions, maybe you should consider taking some time off work.

“When you are constantly draining your resources, you are not being as productive as you can be. If you get depleted, we see performance decline. You’re able to persist less and have trouble solving tasks,” said Assistant Professor of Management at Virginia Commonwealth University, Allison Gabriel.

Dan Sullivan, co-founder of Toronto-based Strategic Coach and co-author of The Laws of Lifetime Growth advises all Dream Dinners franchisees to do one simple thing and that is to take some time off. Sullivan states that productivity and performance start with free time, which he believes is the fuel for the energy, creativity and focus that lead to success. You’re probably thinking, “There is no way I can take any time off right now, I’m too busy.” Well you are wrong. Taking time off allows your brain to rest, receive more nutrition and recharge.

Here are a few suggestions on how you can take some time off and get away from all of the chaos that happens at work. Because even franchise owners require a bit of time off for some TLC.

Dream Dinners Franchise Tips To Take Time Off

  1. Take a Break While at the Office. Studies show that performance increases after breaks of all durations whether it’s extended vacations or mini-breaks as long as 30 seconds. Instead of having a meeting inside, try going outside and have your meeting there. This allows your brain to recharge and it gets you out of your routine of being stuck in the office all day. Lunch is another opportunity to restore your energy. A study conducted by Swedish researchers found that taking two and a half hours per week to exercise during typical work hours increases productivity. So the next time you plan on eating lunch at your desk, go run on the treadmill for 20 minutes instead.
  2. Take a Vacation. Leaving your work at work and putting it behind you is hard, we understand, but it’s important to allow yourself to do that. Studies show that vacations lead to significantly higher performance upon returning to your job. Canadian researchers, Joudrey and Wallace conducted a study in 2009, which reported that vacations and active leisure hobbies helped alleviate stress among 900 lawyers. A group of international researchers from Purdue University confirmed that vacations also have a positive impact on the communication, bonding and solidarity among families.
  3. Find a Hobby. When you come home from work the first thing you probably want to do is get out of your work clothes and sit in front of the television for hours. That is the last thing you should do! According to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, author of Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, the average television viewer is in a mild depression state.
  4. Manage Your Time. Time management is the key to success. Managing your time leads to accomplishing more, making better decisions and having more free time to spend with your family. Sullivan suggests that entrepreneurs create calendars where their weeks are broken down into “free days,” where checking your inbox is not allowed; “buffer days,” for planning and preparing; and “focus days,” for goal oriented practices.
